Isla de Ometepe

Volcanos, volcanos, yes, let’s go to the volcano island consisting of two volcanos some nice beaches, explore the islands and climb a bit?

You can take the ferry, especially if you are in a car, over to the island, it takes an hour over the water. It is a nice feeling traveling across water to the volcano island.

There are som both budget and more pricy accommodations on the island, don’t expect luxury but pretty decent places. It is popular with eco-turism here and make sure you enjoy that, the forest, the water, the volcanos. And check out the petroglyphs from pre-colombian times. Since it is an island there is not much traffic or people, but of course some things need guided tours, like climbing the volcano, so expect some people 🙂

Recommend to spend a few days here, just relaxing and kick-back.

Things to do can be:

Swim in the natural spring Ojo de Agua, supposedly cures about everything 😉 costs some 3-4USD to have a go.

Visit the waterfall of San Ramon, but this is not so great if there is low water season, ask your local guide or hotel about this.

Petroglyphs – I’m a sucker for old history – check them out.

Visit the beach Punta Jesus Maria, enjoy the view.

Eat some fresh seafood!

Explore the islands, the nature reservation Charco Verde, go kayaking and make sure to enjoy some time just being, because this is a bit away from the usual busy life, where things move a bit more slowly.
