Now comes a love-hate kind of place for us. San juan del sur is lovely situated with a great beach. It is not a surprise why it is loved for the surf and night life.
However, that means a lot of tourists, a lot of “gringos” and everything is more expensive, the surf and night life brings more tourists and with that pushes out the genuine people living there. Ex-pats buy the land, big mansions are build. We like more the untouched, genuine feeling of Nicaragua.
Now with that said, there are some pretty nice beaches, and frankly even if I don’t surf this is the place that got me thinking “Hmm, maybe I should try the surf school”, that is the feeling.
Here the restaurants are more catered for the tourists, and some are not that great 🙂 A lot of american tourists are here, a lot of your surfer dudes and surfer gals, a lot of beer is consumed.
Make sure you take a dip in the ocean, and get to the beaches north and south of the main beach. Lovely sunsets!
There aren’t any problem getting a room or rent a place, but the prices are pretty much higher than the rest of the country I believe.
Go there, but explore a bit outside of the main beach and places, that is worth it.
Will be putting some links and pics here….
